I received an email from Roger Brewer, Estate Manager at Upton Country Park, that
forwarded a copy of a letter published in the Bournemouth Echo complimenting the
work of the Friends.
It is great to receive comments like this on the work we do at Upton House and Park.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Wednesday 11th September 2013
“THIS weekend I had the pleasure of attending a wedding at Upton House. It has been
a couple of years since my last visit and my goodness it has been spruced up.
Inside, all the ground floor rooms have been renovated, restored to their former
glory, fresh paint, French polished furniture, and glorious chandeliers. The amazing
countryside murals gleam, the magnificent fire places really impress and the wonderful
spiral staircase is stately to say the least.
I recommend a visit if the chance arises, check the secret passages and doors in
the library too.
It is licensed to conduct marriages so with its wonderful picturesque grounds, excellent
catering, friendly efficient staff and atmospheric rooms is the perfect Wedding venue.
Certainly the jewel in Poole's crown.”
MIKE ROBERTS-BUTLER, Poole
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Monday 30th September 2013
“I AM delighted that Mike Roberts Butler, having attended a wedding at Upton House
on a recent visit, approves (Letters, September 11).
He may well wonder how this is achieved with a cash-strapped council, and he may
be surprised when I say it is down to a local charity, the Friends of Upton Country
Park, who have over the last 30-plus years raised over £600,000 through the generous
support of the public at our activities, from the ice cream kiosk to the plant centre.
Whether it is tractors, flora and fauna in the country park, or chandeliers, decor,
drapes, carpeting, spiral staircase upgrading, French polishing, is all down to donations
that we give to our partners, Poole Borough Council.
Further I am extremely pleased he approves of our latest restoration, the work being
done in the library, something that is not easy with such delicate and loving care
required to achieve the best for all concerned.
A careless glass of wine or tea cup misplaced and damage can occur.
To have a wedding in such circumstances is a privilege, and requires careful stewarding.
Why not see areas that you were unable to see, by becoming a member of the friends,
as we have but scratched the surface of what can be achieved with more support.”
BRIAN J GALPIN, President, Friends of Upton Country Park
A FEW WORDS from Roger Brewer, Borough of Poole
“As I’m sure you’ll agree, it’s a wonderful reflection on all the hard work and achievements
we have been able to deliver in recent years. The generous support of the FUCP has
led to a number of improvements which are really making a difference to our visitors
and I’m so pleased that this is being recognised. The current refurbishment of the
library is tribute to how we can work together and deliver a great project in partnership.”
